Privacy
Beat Regatta is a free browser game. This page says what it keeps about you and why. It is short because there is not much.
What the game stores
- A player cookie. The first time you finish a ride, the server gives your browser a random token in a cookie, so your scores stay yours. The server keeps only a one-way hash of it. It is needed for the leaderboard to work, and it is not used for tracking.
- Your name and scores. You can pick a display name (or keep the one you are given). It appears on the leaderboards next to your score, so do not use your real name if you would rather not. Names and scores are removed along with the tracks they belong to.
- Settings in your browser. Your chosen difficulty, your best scores and your analytics choice are kept in your browser's local storage on your own device.
Music and video
Every day the game picks five popular music videos on YouTube and works out a track from their sound. Only numbers derived from the sound are stored, never the audio itself. While you ride, the video plays in YouTube's own embedded player, which is governed by Google's privacy policy and may set its own cookies.
Analytics
If, and only if, you press Accept in the banner, the game uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which tracks and difficulties get played. It records the page you visit and a few game events (a track opened, a ride started or finished with its score and whether you fell, the scoreboard opened). It never includes your name. There is no advertising, and the advertising consent options are switched off. If you press No thanks, or ignore the banner, nothing is loaded from Google at all.
You can change your mind at any time with Analytics settings at the bottom of the start screen, or by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Your rights
You can ask to see or delete the data tied to your player (your name and scores), and you can clear the cookie and local storage in your browser at any time, which detaches your browser from your scores.
